Baksan - a city in the Republic of Kabardino-Balkaria, located in the northern part of the republic, on the left bank of the Baksan River. The city is 20 km (as the crow flies) from the capital city of Nalchik.
The total area of the city is 27.79 square kilometers. It borders the lands of the settlements: Digulbegey in the south, Islamey in the southwest, Psychokh in the north, Baksanionuk in the east and Kishpek in the southeast.
The city is located at the foot of the hills of the Republic. Average heights are about 455 meters above sea level.
The number of residents in the city is over 40 thousand people. The great majority of the city's residents are Circassians (Adyghe).
