In the most expensive cities in the world, you can find inexpensive apartments

 

In one of our articles (first article - October 23, 2024 - adygrealty.com) on the 10 most expensive cities in the world in terms of real estate, we presented the price of luxury apartments in these cities and how much one square meter of an apartment can be bought for a million dollars. 

In this article, we will present the cheapest prices of apartments that are below the prices we presented in that article (first article) and  that were offered today (April 11, 2025) for sale on various real estate sites. 

Monaco (Principality of Monaco)

We will start the list with Monaco, which led the list of the most expensive cities in the world in terms of real estate.

In this website prianproperty.com, a 48 square meter apartment was offered for sale at a price of $1,535,000, meaning that the price of one square meter is $32,000. This apartment was the cheapest in Monaco which offered on this site.

Then we wrote (first article) that the average number of square meters of apartment that you can buy for a million dollars is 16 square meters ( $63,000 per square meter).

Hong Kong (Special Administrative Region of China) 

In this website savills.com, a 30 square meter apartment was offered for sale at a price of $1,680,000, meaning that the price of one square meter is $56,000. This apartment was the cheapest in Hong Kong which offered on this site.

First article: 22 square meters per million dollars ( $45,000 per square meter). Here you can see that there is an increase in apartment prices.

Singapore (Republic of Singapore)

In this website propertyguru.com, an apartment measuring 44 square meters was offered for sale at a price of $699,000, which means the price of one square meter is $15,000. This apartment was the cheapest in Singapora which offered on this site.

First article: 32 square meters per million dollars (31,000 dollars per square meter).

London (United Kingdom)

In this website onthemarket.com, 10 apartments measuring up to 50 square meters are offered for sale at prices of $50,000 per apartment, which means the price of one square meter is $1,000. 

First article: 33 square meters per million dollars (30,000 dollars per square meter).

Here we clearly see that in certain places in London you can find much cheaper apartments.

Geneva (Switzerland)

In this website immobilier.ch, 2 apartments were offered for sale, one measuring 35 square meters at a price of $600,000, meaning the price of one square meter is $17,000. The second apartment measuring 88 square meters at a price of $335,000 - $3.8 thousand per square meter - this is a very cheap price compared to the average price of apartments in Geneva. 

First article: 34 square meters per million dollars ( $29,000 per square meter).

New York (United States)

In this website zillow.com, 5 apartments were offered for sale, measuring up to 50 square meters and priced from $118,000 to $144,000, meaning the price of one square meter ranges from $2,360 to $2,880.

First article: 34 square meters per million dollars (29 thousand dollars per square meter). 

This means that in certain places of the city you can find much cheaper apartments.

Los Angeles (USA)

In this website zillow.com, 6 apartments ranging in size from 60 to 80 square meters were offered for sale at prices from 170 thousand dollars to 190 thousand dollars - the price of one square meter ranges from 3500 dollars to 4500 dollars.

First article: 38 square meters per million dollars (26 thousand dollars per square meter). 

This means that in certain places in Los Angeles you can find much cheaper apartments.

Paris (France)

In this website green-acres.fr, 14 apartments ranging in size from 30 to 60 square meters were offered for sale at prices ranging from $140,000 to $390,000 - the price of one square meter ranges from $3,500 to $8,500.

First article: 40 square meters per million dollars (25,000 dollars per square meter). This means that in certain places in Paris you can find apartments at not very high prices.

Shanghai (China)

In this website savills.com , 2 apartments were offered for sale, one measuring 30 square meters at a price of $216,000 (the price of one square meter is $7,200), the second apartment measuring 43 square meters at a price of $487,000 (the price of one square meter is $11,300.

First article: 42 square meters per million dollars (24 thousand dollars per square meter). Even in Shanghai, you can find apartments for prices below 500 thousand dollars.

Sydney (Australia)

In this website property.com, 17 apartments ranging in size from 20 to 50 square meters were offered for sale at prices from 150 thousand dollars to 200 thousand dollars - the price of one square meter ranges from 4000 dollars to 8500 dollars.

First article: 43 square meters per million dollars (23 thousand dollars per square meter). Here in Sydney, too, you can find apartments at prices lower than average.

If we summarize these data, we see that the first three cities on the list: Monaco, Hong Kong and Singapore are out of the game because in these cities it is impossible to find apartments with a price per square meter of less than 15 thousand dollars. In contrast, in the other cities on the list, you can find apartments where the price per square meter is several thousand dollars.
